Buy Cannabis Legally in DC —
The Complete Tourist's Guide
Everything a visitor needs to know about buying cannabis at PlugD — Adams Morgan's locally focused, licensed dispensary. Same-day delivery across Washington DC.
Can Tourists Buy Cannabis Legally in Washington DC?
Yes — and it's simpler than you might expect. Washington DC operates a licensed medical cannabis programme regulated by the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA). A 2023 policy update means any adult visitor can access it with minimal steps.
As a tourist, you can buy cannabis in Washington DC the same day you arrive. There's no doctor's referral, no home-state card, and no prior diagnosis needed. Just complete a short digital self-certification at abca.dc.gov, show your ID, and you're ready to shop at PlugD.
- Must be 21 or older. No exceptions, no workarounds. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID every time.
- Consumption is private only. Federal property — the National Mall, monuments, federal buildings, and sidewalks — is off-limits. Private Airbnbs and residences are the safest option.
- No cannabis across state lines or airports. Reagan National, Dulles, and BWI all fall under federal jurisdiction. Do not bring cannabis to any airport.
- Licensed dispensaries only. PlugD operates under DC regulations. Every product is tested for potency, purity, and safety before it reaches you.
Hotel tip: Delivery to hotels is possible — check with your front desk about their package policy before ordering. Private Airbnbs are typically your easiest option for consumption.

Cannabis in DC for Tourists — FAQ
Why PlugD — and Why Adams Morgan?
PlugD isn't just conveniently located — it reflects the neighbourhood it serves. Adams Morgan is one of DC's most culturally layered communities: part nightlife hub, part arts district, part long-standing residential enclave. It's the neighbourhood of jumbo-slice pizza, murals, Ethiopian and Latin American restaurants, and a block-by-block energy few other DC neighbourhoods match.
PlugD's approach fits that identity. The dispensary is locally focused — product curation prioritises quality and community over volume, and the team is built to serve both first-time buyers and experienced consumers with equal care. Every product on the PlugD menu is selected for quality, freshness, and potency.
PlugD's delivery network mirrors the geography of Northwest and central DC, covering the neighbourhoods where visitors actually stay — from Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights to Capitol Hill and Foggy Bottom.
